Jerry Rice had strong reaction to son's NFL Draft slide

Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, had a bit of a surprising NFL Draft experience. Widely expected to be a mid-round pick, the USC product wound up falling to the seventh round, where the Los Angeles Chargers snapped him up with the 225th overall pick.

That slide did not sit well with Jerry, at least according to his son. Brenden revealed that Jerry was “hot” over his son’s draft slide and was apparently eager to prove a lot of people wrong as a result.

"My dad was hot," Brenden Rice said Friday, via Kris Rhim of ESPN. "You guys get the flash like … the humble dude, right? Me, he’s like, 'Hell no, we’re going to take this to a different level. These guys going to feel us.'"

Ultimately, the fall might work out nicely for Rice because of his landing spot. The Chargers have a high-end quarterback in Justin Herbert and a highly inexperienced wide receiver room, with veteran DJ Chark the most accomplished name on the roster at the position. If Rice can impress, he may get more snaps than one might expect a seventh-round pick to get.

Jerry Rice is not the only football dad ready to see his son prove people wrong after a somewhat disappointing draft experience.
