The Monarchs had to do everything wrong to lose to the Hilltoppers after building a 28-0 second-quarter lead, forcing five turnovers and having a win probability north of 90% for the majority of the game. They did exactly that.

Old Dominion appeared as though it had avoided an epic collapse after linebacker Wayne Matthews III forced a fumble that was recovered by safety Markus Knight and returned to Western Kentucky's 35-yard line with under five minutes remaining.

However, that was the final highlight for the Monarchs. Hilltoppers lineman Marshall Jackson blocked Old Dominion kicker Ethan Sanchez's 47-yard field goal attempt on the ensuing drive.

From there, Western Kentucky quarterback Caden Veltkamp connected with wide receiver K.D. Hutchinson on a fourth-and-goal from Old Dominion's 15-yard line with 19 seconds remaining.

Then, before the Hilltoppers' walk-off field goal, they blocked another attempt by Sanchez after the Monarchs had a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line in overtime.
